Former President Donald Trump shared an update that has shifted the conversation around his youngest son’s college prospects. At a recent event held at Mar-a-Lago, the former president revealed that the earlier plans regarding which institutions Barron would consider have now changed. This comes amidst widespread speculation about the 18-year-old’s potential academic, or perhaps even political future.
At a recent gathering at Mar-a-Lago, Trump shared that while Barron’s academic achievements are commendable, the list of potential colleges has evolved significantly. “Right now, he’s doing a great job,” Trump said. “He has great marks. He’s going to be going to college soon.”
Trump said his son “had plans for a number of schools but those plans had recently changed” at the event, according to The Western Journal. This comes as Barron, towering at least six feet seven inches, steps into the limelight as the former first son. Speculations had once leaned towards the University of Pennsylvania, Trump’s alma mater, and even New York University. However, recent reports have suggested these options might be off the table now.
Why this sudden change in plans? While details remain scant, it’s clear that Barron’s journey is far from simple. Amidst the whirlwind of academic decisions, Barron has been thrust into political discussions too. Recently, he was invited to represent Florida as a delegate at the Republican National Convention, an offer he respectfully declined due to prior commitments, as stated by Melania’s office.
Barron is also gearing up for his high school graduation this Friday from Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida. The elite prep school, serving grades six through 12, boasts a 100% college acceptance rate annually, with half of its graduates moving on to top-tier universities and liberal arts colleges in the U.S. The graduation ceremony will be held at the school but will remain a private event, open only to invited guests. Although Barron is now eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election, he will not participate as a delegate at this summer’s Republican National Convention, despite previous announcements to the contrary.
Speaking on “Kayal and Company” on Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT earlier this month, Trump praised Barron’s intellect and described his input on political matters.
“He’s a smart one. He doesn’t have to hear much,” Trump said. “He’s a little on the tall side—I will tell you, he’s a tall one—but he’s a good-looking guy, and he’s really been a great student.” Trump also mentioned Barron’s knack for political strategy. “He’ll tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do.’ So anyway, he’s a good guy.”
Until now, Barron has largely shied away from the campaign trail as Melania has remained protective of her son. She has insisted that her husband sit with the family for morning breakfasts and recently took Barron on a public outing for Easter breakfast. Photos from family gatherings often circulate on social media, where Barron’s remarkable height alongside his father and siblings draws significant attention.
